What does it mean to take responsibility with pride? For GIIB, it is a multifaceted matter, and one of the aspects is definitely to lead by example. This is when we made a decision to support the first Asian Retread Conference, which happened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 4-5th of October 2016, initiated by our friends from Asian Business Media LLP publishing. The headline of this year’s event was ‘Go Green: Retread, Rebuild & Recap’.

For GIIB as the event co-sponsor, the biggest rubber compounder in Malaysia and one of the forefront players on the global retread market, this conference was not so much about publicity and network exposure, but rather an opportunity to be the driving force in bringing the key people together and facilitating fruitful dialogues towards a better understanding in the industry. GIIB was represented in the speaker line-up by Executive Director and Deputy CEO Tai Qisheng, who was sharing his thoughts on the topic ‘Retreads’ future in price war: environment or profit, or both?’

During the two days packed with sessions and panel discussions the audience touched various topics: industry overview, latest trends in machinery and equipment, ecologically friendly materials, progressive methods and technology and, of course, commercial and economic side of the business. The conference was attended by numerous reputable organisations (compounders, tyre, machinery and material manufacturers, industry associations, publishing houses) not only from Asia, but also from other parts of the world – Marangoni, CIMA Impianti, Continental, GiTiTyres, VMI, Malaysian Rubber Board to name a few.

For us, it was very pleasant and rewarding to meet old friends, establish some new contacts that hopefully will develop into productive partnerships in the nearest future. At GIIB display booth we were sharing with the delegates our latest successes in specialty rubber application in our Supercool compound, the unmistakeable benefits of our flagship Supercool G Series compound and the details of our recently established collaboration with GiTiTyres in East Malaysia. But the main eye-catcher of the display was the prototype of a tyre retreaded with green compound, which was brought to the world for the first time ever by GIIB, together with a new design KM818.

We at GIIB believe that such events should be the strategic ground for industry development and collaboration and are looking forward to the Asian Retread Conference 2018 in Malaysia.
